Energy Efficiency

From 2000 to 2004, energy efficiency improved 19.5 percent across our manufacturing plants. In 2005,  we pledged to reduce energy consumption 10% per unit produced from 2004 levels by the end of 2008 at our global manufacturing locations.

Status

Our continued focus on reducing energy consumption within global operations has yielded favorable results. In 2008, energy consumption per unit produced was reduced by 13.25% from 2004 levels, exceeding our goal by 3.25%. We will continue to focus on using energy efficiently which is a critical part of greenhouse gas reduction strategy. We have recently set a new energy reduction target - to reduce energy consumption per unit produced an additional 10% by 2012 (from 2008 levels).

Energy Consumption

Total energy consumption at Avon's manufacturing facilities in 2008 decreased by 98,643 MM BTU from 2007 levels. Total energy consumption at Avon's manufacturing facilities in 2008 was 1,105,314 MM BTU, an 8.9% decrease on an absolute basis from 2007 levels.

A new Avon manufacturing facility went on-line in Russia in late 2004, and the increase in energy consumption from 2004 to 2005 is attributable to this new facility.
